Marriage Visas and Fiance Visas are two of the most predominant ways to obtain US citizenship. For spouses of US citizensthere
is not statutory limit on the number of marriage visas issued. So, unlike other relatives like brothers and sisters, spouses only
need to wait for the administrative processing of the Marriage Visa to enter to US. For spouses of legal permanent residents,
the waiting time is about five years because of the limits placed on marriage visas for non-citizens. As a Marriage
Visa Attorney I normally advise Legal Permanent Residents to apply while they are pursuing their citizenship even with the
limits. Once your obtain your citizenship, your spouse's status can be updated and a marriae visa can become immediately
available. This proactive approach can lessen the wait time.
